The Swedish Energy Agency and Business Sweden hold a webinar on Friday, April 12th, from 09:00 to 10:15, where it will delve into the latest trends in the Chinese economy, as well as explore market dynamics and opportunities within green buildings and district cooling.

"Roughly half of China's greenhouse gas emissions come from the construction and real estate sector. Therefore, the development of energy-efficient buildings already plays a central role in China's climate policy today. Within a few years, all new constructions are expected to meet green building standards, and the requirements for energy efficiency are continuously increasing. Swedish expertise and technology should be able to play a role in the Chinese market where several hundred million square meters are expected to be energy-efficient or built as zero-energy buildings in the coming years," says Paul Westin, Senior Business Developer at the Swedish Energy Agency.

At the webinar, it will present all the results from a recent report where Business Sweden, on behalf of the Swedish Energy Agency, has mapped out the opportunities within energy-efficient solutions for buildings and district cooling.

One of the conclusions highlighted in the report is that the interest in district cooling in China is primarily driven by market forces. The development has significantly accelerated since China adopted the "Dual Carbon" Strategy in 2020. Several projects have been identified through publicly available sources.

The provinces along China's east coast are leading the way in the green building sector, with many provinces publishing lists of demonstration projects for the public, indicating where future Swedish efforts can be expected.

The Swedish Energy Agency and Business Sweden's hope is also to gain a clearer understanding of the interest and driving forces among Swedish companies to participate in thematic activities in China during 2024/2025.
