Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) technology is one of the crucial means to address global climate change and achieve carbon neutrality. CCUS aims to capture carbon dioxide (CO2) from industrial and energy production processes, converting it into useful products or securely storing it underground to reduce atmospheric CO2 concentrations.
CCUS includes three main stages: carbon capture, carbon utilization, and carbon storage.
- Carbon Capture: This involves capturing CO2 from industrial waste gases, combustion flue gases, and the atmosphere through methods such as chemical absorption, physical adsorption, membrane separation, and cryogenic separation.
- Carbon Utilization: Captured CO2 is converted into chemicals, fuels, building materials, etc., achieving resourceful utilization of CO2.
- Carbon Storage: Unutilized CO2 is injected into deep geological formations such as saline aquifers, depleted oil and gas fields, and coal seams for long-term secure storage.
Carbon8 is a global leader in carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS), specialising in mineralization.
Through Accelerated Carbonation Technology (ACT), they help industry decarbonise while transitioning to a more circular operation. They capture CO₂ directly from the source to treat industrial residues and manufacture new materials. The captured carbon is locked into innovative, low-carbon products like lightweight aggregates, CircaBuild and CircaGrow.
CircaBuild, our lightweight carbon-negative alternative to natural aggregates, has various applications in construction and are a valuable high-performance alternative to natural aggregate, inherently reducing the carbon footprint of any construction project.
The CO₂ntainerᵀᴹ is the realisation of technology as a compact, mobile CCUS solution. It allows for easy implementation, avoiding disruptions in production and is a solution that can help hard-to-abate sectors today.
DNV are the world’s leading classification society and a recognized advisor for the maritime industry. They deliver world-renowned testing, certification and technical advisory services to the energy value chain including renewables, oil and gas, and energy management. They are one of the world’s leading certification bodies, helping businesses assure the performance of their organizations, products, people, facilities and supply chains.
Eager to demonstrate authenticity, quality, and traceability, Carbon8 selected DNV to validate and authenticate its methodology. The ISO 14064 part 2 requirements specifically relate to quantifying, monitoring, and reporting activities, techniques, and processes that can reduce carbon/greenhouse gas emissions.
DNV validated that the methodology designed and used by Carbon8:
· Provides accurate reporting, eliminating the risk of double counting or inclusion of unsupported removals.
· Measures emissions reduction/removal accurately, accounting for equipment manufacture, operation, and disposal emissions.
· Establishes stringent, transparent, and repeatable monitoring procedures.
